About Annette

I am an Indonesian-Australian visual and textile artist whose practice is heavily inspired by the Western Australian landscape. From the rugged ochres to the red sandy soil, the intense blue sky and oceans, and the dramatic textures of our native flora, I seek to capture the beauty and enduring aspects of our environment through the use of botanical prints, earthy pigments as well as rust. They are featured in my abstract paintings, photography, and hand-dyed/felted textiles.

As a textile artist, I only produce a small batch and limited collection with a strong focus on environmental sustainability by utilising kitchen waste for dyeing, reducing water usage, and upcycling offcuts and preloved garments. I mostly work with natural fibres such as fair trade cotton, silk, and wool. The leaves, bark, flowers, and gumnuts are locally gathered and where possible, only windfalls are collected.

I also facilitate textile based workshops such as natural dyeing, eco-printing, and felting for beginners and those with more experience. To find out about my upcoming workshops, markets, and exhibitions, please check the events page and follow me on instagram @annette_wiguna for regular updates.
