FAQs

How do I look after my naturally dyed/printed textiles?

Wash only when necessary. Hand wash with gentle detergent in cold-tepid water. For woollen textiles, do not agitate the fabric too much as this will lead to felting. Do not tumble dry all textiles. It is best to dry them naturally away from direct sunlight. When dry, iron on cotton setting for cellulose fabrics or woollen/silk setting for protein fabrics.

Do you run a private 1-1 workshop?

At this stage, I am unable to provide 1-1 workshop but my studio based workshop only accommodates up to 4-6 participants so there are plenty of opportunities for individual feedback.

I am a total beginner, will your workshops be suitable for me?

Most of my workshops are perfect for those without prior dyeing/printing experience. This will be clearly stated in each workshop. The All Natural Ecoprint (or Natural Dyeing & Ecoprinting at North Metro TAFE) is a perfect introduction to the world of natural dyes and botanical prints without using traditional metallic salts (eg. aluminium sulphate). Once you’ve done any of my textile workshops you are welcome to join in the Social Dyeing Session.

What is Social Dyeing Session (SDS)?

SDS is planned to be held once every 2 months (bimonthly) to reconnect with fellow dyers/textile enthusiasts who wish to explore dyeing and printing in a self-led group setting (non-tutored). It is only open to those who have done my textile workshops before and anyone who are already familiar with the scouring and mordanting processes. You will need to bring your scoured and mordanted fabrics/yarns, and optionally your own pot/stove if you’d like to have full control of your dye bath. I will provide my own Eucalyptus/tannin dye bath, steamers, stove, and a couple of dyes that everyone can try. SDS is normally held at the Fremantle Fibonacci Centre (19 Blinco St, Fremantle).

Where do you normally hold your workshops?

My small group (4-6 people) workshops are held at the Fremantle Fibonacci Centre. I also run 6-week short course on Natural Dyeing and Ecoprinting at North Metro TAFE on a weekday evening. I have previously held workshops at the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts and Dwellingup.

Do you provide a refund/exchange if I am no longer able to attend your workshop

I am unable to provide a refund nor exchange on booked workshops because oftentimes the consumable materials must be ordered and prepared weeks in advance. I also want to ensure that everyone in my workshop are working with the same materials that are prepared in the same way so I will not be able to re-assign the unused consumables in future workshop. For this reason, please consider carefully before booking your place.

However, you are welcome to transfer your spot to someone else but please let me know of their contact details so I can keep them up to date should there be any changes to the workshop.

What about cancelled/rescheduled workshops?

When a workshop is cancelled, I will let all attendees know and provide a full refund. In case of postponed/rescheduled workshops, all attendees will be notified and given a refund option if the new arrangement is unsuitable.

What’s the best way to find out about your workshops, exhibitions, or markets?

By signing up to my mailing list you will receive monthly newsletters. As a subscriber, you will get the first chance to enrol or be notified of workshop registration, sales, and event invitations before the information is published on my website and social media platforms.

How do I purchase a painting from you and what is the delivery/shipping process?

If you have found a painting that you’d love to have in your home please drop me a message or email me. If you live in Perth, I am happy to arrange free delivery (within 25km of Perth CBD) or you may collect from the Store@Fib (Fremantle Fibonacci Centre) between Wednesday to Sunday, 9am - 3pm. If the artwork requires shipping, I will provide you with a quote from Australia Post and provide you with an invoice for the artwork and shipping fee.
