WEIR ON A HIGH PLACE

  • Mundaring Arts Centre 7190 Great Eastern Highway Mundaring, Western Australia, 6073 Australia (map)

Opening Launch Saturday 5th September. RSVP Essential: gtaylor@mundaringartscentre.com.au

Weir On A High Place is the latest creative exploration by Five Tides Collective, a Fremantle-based artist group of five accomplished women whose lineage span Ireland, Japan, Palestine-Germany, Indonesia, and Australia. Through day and night field excursions, they immerse themselves in the liminal spaces where natural and built environments intersect at Mundaring Weir, gathering impressions that inform a multidisciplinary body of work spanning printmaking, textiles, ceramics, painting, sculpture, and mixed media.

Their diverse cultural backgrounds create powerful dialogues about contemporary identity, belonging, and place. Diane Keating traces migratory journeys, Junko Kitamura weaves landscape narratives, Nadia Rasheed offers nocturnal observations of the weir under darkness, Carolyn White explores texture and surface, and Annette Wiguna meditates on the built dependencies sustaining human life.

Together, the works honour water as sacred sustenance, investigating the delicate interdependence between engineering marvels and natural ecosystems, inviting viewers to reconsider their relationship to infrastructure, landscape, and the quiet forces that connect them.
